The biggest benefit of using activated carbon as a precious metal supported catalyst carrier is that it can easily separate and collect precious metals such as iridium ( Ir ) that it carries. Osaka Gas Chemical's activated carbon for catalyst / catalyst support come in various grades depending on the particle size distribution, attribution loss, and crush strength. For industrial use, there are pellet activated carbon C2x series with uniform particle size and excellent hardness, crushed activated carbon C2 series with an emphasis on cost performance, and powdered activated carbon FAC-10 for fine chemicals.
FAC-10 for fine chemicals is a high-spec grade with optimally sized pores for supporting metals in the reaction, providing high efficiency in the separation process. It is also superior in mesoporousness. (A material having mesopores, which is between micropores and macropores, tends to cause a chemical reaction using the inside of the pores.)
