Conclusion of Supply-Distributorship Agreement with CarboTech

December 12th, 2012
Japan EnviroChemicals, Ltd.

Japan EnviroChemicals (JEC), one of Osaka Gas Chemicals Group companies, has concluded Supply-Distributorship Agreement for Nitrogen-Carbon Molecular Sieves (CMS)*2, an activated carbon*1 used for nitrogen generators, with CarboTech AC GmbH/CarboTech Services GmbH (CarboTech), a German activated carbon manufacturer. (For the joint statement of JEC and CarboTech)

As a pioneer in the field of CMS, CarboTech has strong sales operation and technical support capabilities. It has been offering not only the product of CMS but also design know-how of PSA nitrogen generators.
CarboTech will no longer manufacture CMS but focus on its respective distribution and logistics capabilities in the future. This strategic cooperation enables JEC and CarboTech to concentrate management resources effectively and efficiently on respective competitive edge in the CMS business. CarboTech works on customers closely with its technical expertise and JEC develops improved CMS to meet customer needs in a timely manner. JEC and CarboTech expect that we cooperate closely to seize the underpenetrated markets in the world.

Since the manufacturing technology of activated carbon was first introduced from Germany in 1936, JEC has pursued constant research and development and accumulated technical know-how so that it can appropriately meet sophisticated customer needs. Based on the long history and the proven technical capability, our activated carbon business claims a top level share in the domestic market. JEC also boasts the technical competence of CMS.

JEC will continue to be committed to development and manufacture of competitive, high-value products including CMS. Furthermore, JEC will accelerate the global expansion primarily in Asia, Europe, and the US.

(*1) Activated carbon with rich micropores is widely used as adsorbents and other applications.
(*2) CMS, a type of activated carbon, having more ultra-micropores than ordinary activated carbons, has a function to selectively capture oxygen molecules in the air. Making use of this characteristic, CMS has been mainly used for nitrogen PSA generators (PSA: Pressure Swing Adsorption). More recently, CMS has also been applied for separation and purification of biogas and natural gas. There are increasing customer demands of high performance CMS worldwide.
